Skills and Strategies in a World in Transition (Genoa, April 12th, 2024)

Skills and strategies in a world in transition

A dialogue between institutions, businesses and the world of training as part of the activities of the Jean Monnet LAURA Chair

The event is part of the Jean Monnet LAURA Chair's activities as a unified path of reflection on the topic of skills, understood as a strategic lever for addressing the profound economic, social, and environmental transformations underway.

The day was structured around three main moments, which were strongly integrated with each other.

The first was an invited paper, entrusted to Ambassador Grammenos Mastrojeni, which offered a systemic reading of the ecological, energy, and digital transitions, highlighting the link between sustainability, economic choices, and the skills needed by future workers.

Next, two round tables, designed as complementary spaces for dialogue.
The round table of enterprises gathered first-hand testimonies of production realities engaged in transition processes, highlighting how the subject of skills translates concretely into business models, chains and innovation strategies.
Instead, the round table of institutions involved representatives from the regional, national and European levels, with a view to discussing the role of public policies, programming instruments and lifelong training in governing these changes.

The common thread throughout the day was the topic of skills, which is one of the pillars of the Jean Monnet LAURA Chair and was at the heart of the European Year of Skills 2023, promoted by the European Commission. This framework includes the involvement of the European Documentation Centre (CDE) of the University of Genoa, a direct offshoot of the European Commission, and the participation of the European Commission Representation in Italy, demonstrating the strong link between European policies, universities, and the local community.

The day concluded with the award ceremony for the best projects carried out by high school students who participated in the activities of the Jean Monnet LAURA Chair during the current academic year, confirming the central role of education and training for younger generations in building a just, inclusive, and sustainable transition, in line with the objectives of the European Union and the Chair's mission.
